Guided Meditation: The Mirror of Truth

Article by Stefanie Johnson

There are magical places that exist within each one of us, inside our minds, hearts, and souls. By visiting these places, we can tap into the infinite and bring peace and abundance into our lives.

Each journey will be unique, as we are unique, so you may want to have a notebook and pen nearby to record your experience afterward. You may choose to have another person read the meditation to you so you may experience it more fully.

Find a comfortable place, close your eyes, open your mind, and prepare yourself to travel within.

This week, we will pay a visit to the Mirror of Truth.  This mirror - in the middle of a thick, tangled forest - is there to help you rediscover your hopes, dreams and aspirations.

You are walking a thin dirt path through an unfamiliar, wood.  It’s dark out, and your only light source is the round, full moon above you, which gives off just enough light for you to see a little bit of the path before you.

You’re not quite sure how you came to be in this dark, foreboding forest.  You feel utterly lost, not even sure what you are looking for anymore.  It must have been something important to bring you here, but what?

You come to a place where the path splits into many different paths.  How many paths are there?  You look at them and experience a moment of doubt, for if you don’t choose the right path, you may be trapped in the forest forever.

You steel yourself, for you know it would be worse not to make a choice, to doubt yourself.  You choose the path that calls to you the most (which path calls to you, and why?) and you walk it, briskly, without turning back.

At first you fear you may have made the wrong choice, but then you see something that lets you know you made the right one.  There is a single candle in the middle of your path, lighting the way for you. Though you feel in your heart this candle is not what you are seeking on this journey, you instinctively know that it may be the key to getting yourself back on track.

You continue on, and notice there are now many lit candles along the sides of the path, as though someone had left them there to lead the way.  The farther you walk, the more candles there are, until you reach a clearing that is filled with them.  They are all different colors, shapes, scents, and they fill the clearing with dancing light.

In the middle of the clearing, ringed by the candles, stands a magnificent mirror.  It is encircled by swirling loops of gold, silver, copper, and bronze, all of which glimmer warmly as you approach.  You stand before the large, beautiful mirror and look at yourself.

I am this person, you say to yourself, gazing into your own eyes.  I am this person, and I am beautiful. I deserve to be happy.  I deserve to be loved.  I lost my way, but I will find it again.

The image in the mirror ripples, as though it was made of water, and you see something that means a great deal to you, something from your past that defines who you are as a person.

(What image appears before you in the mirror? Describe it. How does it make you feel?)

The image changes, and you see mist … and then another scene unfolds before you, a scene of what you are looking for, what will bring you the most happiness in your life.

(Again, describe what you see, and what you feel)

This is what you were looking for, this reminder of your soul’s true desire, your true purpose.  You know what you want.  All you have to do is reach for it, with passion and valor.  You touch the glass and it feels warm.  You feel warm, too, as though the fires of life inside of you have been rekindled.

Remember … whenever you feel that you have lost your way, that you are wandering aimlessly through the forest, the Mirror of Truth waits for you, so you can rekindle your passion for your dreams and true purpose.

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”
-Langston Hughes

“Cherish your vision and your dreams as they are the children of your soul; the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”
-Napoleon Hill
