30 Easy Ways to Make Your Day Better

Article by Dee DeWitt

There are little things I am trying to use to make my days more pleasant.  We all need this for our health, especially today.  For me, these are things that I try to sprinkle throughout the day.  Sometimes I am able to and I feel much better, and sometimes not.  The important thing is to try.  Most of these are not big things, but they each can translate to a great day if you use them right.  Most don’t really cost a thing (or not much, anyway), but they are tremendously satisfying (especially those related to helping and forgiveness).

These are just a few, but the possibilities are endless, and can be done throughout the day.  Try them … and add your own to the list.  We’d like to know what you do to make your day a little better!

1.  Start your day out by spending time with the One who loves you more than anyone else ever could – God.

2.  Be thankful.

3.  Forgive someone … just because.

4.  Eat as healthy as possible.

5.  Give yourself a treat.

6.  Treat others.

7.  Say Hi to someone you don’t know.

8.  Give a friendly wave to someone you don’t know.

9.  Help someone else.

10.  Feeling overwhelmed?  Make a list of tasks that need to be done.

11.  Look in the mirror and smile.  Still not better?  Keep trying until your day is better.

12. Adjust your attitude.

13. Don’t speed, turn the radio off, and enjoy your commute as time just for yourself.

14.  Touch something in nature you haven’t touched before.  Be careful though!

15.  Put on something fuzzy like your favorite robe and cuddle on the couch.

16.  Say Thank you.

17.  Say Please.

18.  Respect those who have come before you and remember to say Sir and Mam.

19.  Be polite even when others aren’t; laugh when they aren’t

20.  Laugh

21.  Tell a silly joke to someone that will listen or even to yourself…  one of my favorites?  “Why don’t cannibals eat clowns?”  “Because they taste funny!”  ahahaha!

22.  Try utilizing and be aware of ALL the senses that God has given you!  It’s amazing.

23.  Smell fresh coffee – it will wake you up!  Plus it smells yummy!

24.  Smell vanilla or some other flavor you love.

25.  Give your pet some attention.  They’ll be so thankful!  Play fetch, go for a walk, give some cuddles, brush their hair.

26.  Listen to the noises in your backyard or a nearby park.  There are so many delightful noises and not so delightful noises in the world.  It is remarkable how many sounds are out there.

27.  Listen to your favorite CD and remember a good memory about.

28.  Sing really really loud.  Doing this when someone else is around is especially fun and entertaining – for you and the others around.  Who cares if you don’t sound like Mariah Carrey or Pavarotti!  We aren’t trying to get record deals here, just a smile and maybe a good laugh!

29.  Speak encouraging words to someone you meet.  Maybe someone at the checkout line in the grocery store has had a hard day and needs to know that there is someone out there that actually cares about them.

30.  Touch something in nature you haven’t touched before.  Be careful though!

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company …a church …a home.

“The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past … we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.

We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you … we are in charge of our attitudes.”
